Today marks the 245th anniversary of the Revolutionary War engagement along Cypress Creek, where local patriot militia clashed with British regulars under the command of Benedict Arnold. Join us as we bring to life this pivotal local encounter, honoring the courage and resolve of Isle of Wight County’s citizen-soldiers, led by Smithfield’s own Colonel Josiah Parker.

The event is hosted entirely under large heated tents for comfort in any weather. Unless a seated table is purchased, this is a standing-room event. Early Bird and General Admission tickets do not include seating. Standing food tables are available in the outdoor oyster courtyard, the rear of the Party Tent, and inside the Food Tent.

Join us in commemorating the 162nd anniversary of one of the Town of Smithfield’s most dramatic moments. In 1864, Union and Confederate forces clashed as artillery and musket fire echoed along Main Street, culminating in the destruction of the U.S. Army gunboat Smith Briggs.
Begin your experience at the museum with a brief historical overview, then walk Main Street with your guide to explore key locations connected to the pivotal events of January 30–February 2, 1864 - where history unfolded step by step.
