2022 Hurricane Season Preparedness

Hurricane season is back and with no surprise we have early predictions of yet another above average season. The 2022 season started June 1 and will run through the end of November, with the peak of the season occurring in mid-August and late October.
Planning and preparing before a hurricane strike can help manage the impact of the storms. Take the steps below to keep you and your family safe while protecting your home and property.
#1 - Preparing Your Home
Keep all loose and lightweight items inside (bikes, garbage cans, patio furniture, etc).
Anchor down your BBQ grills and propane tanks because they are unsafe to bring inside.
Remove and/or trim any damaged trees and limbs that are close enough to damage any structures.
Clean rain gutters of any debris to prevent any water damage to your home.
#2 - Know the difference between the alerts
Hurricane Advisory: has a greater of an 80% chance of happening, which means that it is likely going to happen.
Hurricane Watch: issued about 48 hours after the advisory has been issued and when the hurricane is most likely going to hit ground. Currently is the best time to gather supplies, charge cell phones, monitor alerts, and gather any items just in case you lose power. Don’t forget to fill up all vehicle gas tanks.
Hurricane Warning: issued about 36 hours after the advisory has been issued and when the hurricane is most likely going to be hitting ground. At this time, it is best to complete your storm preparedness and leave the threatened area if directed by your local or state officials or shelter in place if no evacuation has not been ordered. Follow your family hurricane plan.
#3 - Know Your Family Plan
Plan for every situation. If you are planning to evacuate, know what hotel/location you are planning to meet at.
Know the approved evacuation routes.
If you have pets, make sure you know where the pet friendly locations are.
Have a contact that is out of state that everyone contacts if not together during the storm.
#4 - Other Items to Not Forget About
Make sure to have cash. If the power goes out, you will be prepared if you need to buy something.
Don't forget your medications.
Bring your important documents (passports, home papers, birth certificates, insurance cards, etc)
Bring at least three days of non-perishable food with you.
